New Apps Keep Tabs On Your Crushes

The concept of a secret admirer is nothing new. I for one can recall middle school days where poetic notes would appear in my locker from a mysterious stranger. In the awkward stage of adolescence, it was exciting to think someone actually thought of you as “lust-worthy.”

As a college student, it’s also flattering to know someone has his or her eye on you– that’s if you’re in the land of singledom.  For those of you in a relationship, be warned: it’s even easier nowadays to hunt down your crushes.  You don’t have to know their locker combinations anymore– just their Facebook profile link.

New applications are cropping up that will actually alert you when your crush’s relationship status goes from <3 to single.

One app, ‘The Break-Up Alert’, allows users to create a ‘watch list’ of friends they are interested in and receive email alerts when those friends’ relationship statuses change. Boasting 655 monthly active users, its fan page promises to be “100% discreet and confidential,” though one user commented that an update was posted to his wall after he signed up for the app (whoops!).  The emails they send you are not specific as to which person on your list changed his/her status, or what the change even was, meaning you still have to stalk profiles occasionally.

Launched just before Valentine’s Day 2011, the ‘Waiting Room’ uses the same idea as ‘The Break-Up Alert.’ Its website states that the app was developed “by a few hopeless romantics that were tired of seeing some of their friends settle in relationships.” The goal is “to give people the confidence to pursue the right options,” by letting people currently in relationships know someone is waiting for them to break up with their significant other.

But, with the popularity of dating websites reaching new highs, and many of them being free, Why sign up for these aps?  There is no need to wait for your unrequited love interest to become available.  Move on!  There are plenty of single fish in the sea.

Reporter Demolishes Tower of Pisa

This video is fairly old, but it’s new to me!  I saw it this weekend while surfing YouTube at the height of my Sunday afternoon boredom fest.

I don’t think this reporter will be invited back on campus any time soon.

4 Myths About Stress

I was an uptight, stressed out college student.  There- I said it.  By the time mid-terms rolled around each semester I was chewing up to 20 Tums a day and studying on Friday and Saturday nights.  I actually started looking forward to nights where I would load up my laptop, grab my corner seat at the student center, gear up my iTunes and just study the night away (I wasn’t a partier in college…Don’t judge!).

I can remember one night where my stress really hit a tipping point—more like it toppled me to the ground, while I cried to my mother on the phone.  I felt like I was crumbling under the pressure to make great grades, to finish both majors on-time, to ace my senior thesis and to manage my training schedule for cheer.

I couldn’t make it.

Queen Gaga’s Facebook Reign Smashed By…

After 8-long months, Lady Gaga is no longer the most “liked” individual on Facebook.  Whom may you ask crushed her fan record?

This guy.

Eminem has surpassed Gaga on Facebook

Marshall Mathers now has nearly 40,000 more fans than the “Born This Way” singer.

I’m sure Gaga’s little monsters aren’t too happy about this!

If you had to choose one page to “like” and one page only, who would get your vote: Gaga or Eminem?

Put Your Best Foot Forward This Spring

Spring is right around the corner and what better way to kick off the season than with some cute new shoes? We picked five styles that are sure to make your feet the envy of your peers.

Flatforms – The New Height of Comfort

A new trend this season, Flatforms, combine the height of a platform shoe with the comfort of a flat. This new style is being paired with every look from casual to chic, day to evening. Check out some recent runway styles at fashionurbia.

These flatforms will set you back about $700, but affordable versions and similar styles will certainly be in high demand.

That’s the Spirit!

School Spirit is always in style and while we support mascot-inspired pedicures, we realize not everyone is THAT artistic. So, the next best thing? Spirited, Varsity flip flops.  Warmer weather is on its way so grab a pair and you’ll never be without pride.

For just $19.99, rock school spirit and show off that perfect pedi.

Make a Statement: Wedges

The Flatform trend may not be your style, so for those who look for the added height, statement wedges are the way to go. Added details and varied wedge widths have given this seasonal classic a 2011 makeover. For your spring wedge fix, feast your eyes on Shoeblog.

These American Retro wedges are to die for this season. At about $500, they are but a dream. *Sigh*

Flip-Floppin’ Cool: Havaianas

Bright colors, fun patterns and effortless comfort define the Havaianas brand. With spring break right around the corner, pick up a pair at your campus bookstore to show your pedis wherever your travels may take you.

The Havaianas Slim Turkish print liven up any wardrobe for just $30.

Rain, Rain– Stay As Long As You Want

You know what they say, ‘April showers, bring May flowers.’ As you gear up for the wet weather, don’t be the only one on campus sporting rain-soaked pants and grass-covered feet (Ew.). Available in a wide variety of colors and styles (and of course, spirit!) your feet will stay dry, warm and totally in-style.

School spirited rain boots are available at many campus bookstores for $49. So, pick up a pair and make a splash.
