The Undergrad’s Breakfast On-the-Go

The Undergrad’s Breakfast On-the-Go

Let’s face it, everyone gets sick of their breakfast meal plan at some point or another during college. At times, I can’t even look at the cafeteria any more for breakfast, so I end up picking up a breakfast sandwich instead. Most of the time, breakfast sandwiches are neither healthy nor particularly appetizing even though it’s important to start the day off with a healthy meal.

Consumer Reports researched breakfast sandwiches and out of the one hundred and six total choices, they found only seven healthy options.  I was really surprised to see McDonald’s and Burger King make the cut because fast food restaurants wouldn’t be the first thing to come to mind when I think of “healthy”. Burger King’s Egg & Cheese Muffin and McDonald’s Egg McMuffin were on were both rated rated “fair” on the list. Starbucks had two sandwiches, the Chicken Sausage Wrap and Turkey Bacon & White Cheddar Classic, both rated “good” while Dunkin Donuts had similar success with one wrap, their Egg White Turkey Sausage Wrap. Subway took the lead with two sandwich’s that rated well: the Egg White and Cheese Mornin’ Flatbread and Egg White and Cheese Muffin Melt each rated “very good” and “good”. I’ve never personally tried Subway’s morning sandwiches, but I’ll definitely make sure to stop by and pick one up.

So the next time you’re in a rush and need to make your breakfast a quick one, consider opting for one of these healthier choices. Have you ever tried any? Which was your favorite?
