A Share-worthy Showdown: “Call Me Maybe” vs. “Gangnam Style”

Is Carly Rae still the Viral Video Queen?

Ever since the catchy tune infiltrated the YouTube scene back in March, Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” has been a seemingly insurmountable viral heavyweight. The music video alone boasts more than 270 million views, not to mention the countless millions who watched parodies done by everyone from Sesame Street’s Cookie Monster to the USA Olympic Swim Team. It seemed as though Jepsen’s bouncy hit was going to be the viral colossus of Summer 2012.

That is, until Psy burst onto the scene in mid-July…riding what seemed to be an invisible rodeo horse. And so, a viral showdown of epic proportions began.

Or is Psy the new King of YouTube?

With his eccentric dance moves and infectious song, the K-pop star’s popularity has been exploding throughout the United States, causing a viral supernova in the Social Media universe. The video is both confusing and addictive with overwhelming dance numbers that will keep you glued to the computer screen from beginning to end. We can’t explain it, we’ve just witnessed it.

Now, both videos are hurtling towards 300 million views. Our question for you is: which do you think will get there first?

President Obama “Sings” Call Me Maybe

We just blogged yesterday about Carly Rae Jepsen’s Call Me Maybe reaching #1 on the Billboard Charts. Well, it turns out she might have some serious competition. You might not believe it…but we’re referring to President Obama. Yes, really. We’ve all seen the Call Me Maybe spoofs before but this one is a bit out of the ordinary. With the upcoming presidential elections rapidly approaching, I figured why not do some research about our President? Imagine my surprise when THIS was what I found…

Maybe one day we’ll see a Jepsen-Obama collaboration! Turns out, there are more “Obama Singing” videos than just Call Me Maybe! Check them out!

Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” is #1

Finally knocking Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know” down to number 2, Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” has hit number 1 on the Billboard Top Hot 100. This seriously addictive song has been stuck in my head for weeks and it seems to always be playing on the radio. It just might be the song of the summer, but I wouldn’t count out “Scream” by Usher or the rest of Adele’s “21” (still Billboards number 1 album!) just yet. I think it is great how new artists are taking over the billboard charts. They’ve worked incredibly hard and it’s all paying off!

Do you love Call Me Maybe? What’s your “summer song”?

Call Me Maybe: Harvard Edition

Carly Rae Jepsen’s catchy song Call Me Maybe first caught our attention when teen sensations Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber and friends posted a lip sync video of the song on YouTube. Now we can barely listen to the radio for more than an hour without hearing the song…not that we’re complaining. Since the success of Gomez & Bieber’s video, many popstar-hopefuls have taken to posting their own versions of the song to YouTube. Our favorite so far comes to us courtesy of the Harvard baseball team. Watch what happens when a van full of baseball players gets bored on a roadtrip & tell us who you’d like to see cover the song next in the comments below.
