The IT List: Delicate Jewelry

If you’re like me, then you’re not always sure which accessories to add to an outfit. This latest jewelry trend might be delicate, but it leaves a strong impression. Statement pieces have been all the rage for a while, but dainty jewelry is starting to make its mark. The best part? You can mix-and-match and layer until it really looks exactly how you want it to. Keep reading to see some of my favorite pieces…

Delicate Necklaces

I love the simplicity that a dainty necklace can bring to an outfit. They give the right amount of attention to your neckline without taking over your entire outfit. Different lengths are great for layering and will still maintain that delicate quality. Check out some of these super cute delicate necklaces that I’ve found!

Square necklace from Urban Outfitters ($14), Initial necklace from Forever 21 ($3.80), Heart necklace from J. Crew ($19)

Dainty Rings

I find dainty rings to be really feminine and perfect for any time of year. They don’t take over your hand, but they’ll still make your manicure pop. I’m really into the midi rings that I’ve been seeing around that only go down to mid knuckle. The good thing about these delicate rings is that you can really play around them and stack them up and they don’t look too cluttered or crazy. These are some of my favorites:

Rose gold knuckle set from Brandy Melville ($4), Arrow ring from Lulus ($11), BP. small stone ring from Nordstrom ($6), Heart ring from Nordstrom ($11)

Tasteful Bracelets

I’ve never liked having anything on my wrists because it always felt so bulky to me, but delicate little bracelets feel barely-there while still adding to what you’re wearing. They aren’t noisy like bangles and they aren’t bulky like cuffs, which is perfect for me! Here are some of the ones I love:

Love bracelet from Pinkmascara.com ($19), Handcuff bracelet from asos.com ($9), Alex and Ani College Logo Charm Bangle from select B&N College bookstores ($32)

Which do you prefer, delicate or statement jewelry?

The IT List: Gameday Boots

It should come as no surprise that one of our favorite times of the year is when football season starts up again. With a whole new batch of games on the horizon, an entire new array of school spirit & tailgate apparel becomes available. One of our favorite items for the new season is the handcrafted Gameday Boots. The school logo and intricate embroidery give a delicate, spirited appeal to the typically rugged footwear. We pulled together some stylish inspiration for whatever type of game you’re attending this year!

Homecoming

Homecoming is the perfect time to go all out with your school spirit. A loose tee and leggings are super comfortable without losing their stylish edge. Sunglasses will keep the sun off your face while the boots add the finishing touch.

Get the look: LSU Tigers Burnout Hi-Low Raglan Tee from LSU Bookstore, Aviator Sunglasses from Forever21, Gold Necklace from H&M, Gameday Boots from LSU Bookstore, Team Dynamics Game Faces Temporary Tattoos from LSU Bookstore

A Night Game

Stay comfy and cozy during a late-night game. We opted for jeans and a fleece crew to ensure maximum comfort while you cheer on the team. This pair of boots seemed like the perfect, spirited complement to the rest of the outfit.

Get the look: Gameday Boots from University of South Carolina Bookstore, H&M Jeans, South Carolina Elite Fleece, Reeds Hoop Earrings

Tailgating All Day

Some games just call for an all-day tailgate! Stay cool and comfortable in a breezy sundress with matching spirited shades. You’ll be ready for any photo-op with your logoed boots!

The IT List: Neons with Neutrals

Pairing neutral pieces with neon pops of color is a great way to add some vibrancy to an outfit, without going overboard. But which neutrals really complement all of our favorite neons? Sure…black goes with everything, but it’s camel that softens the glare of a hot pink top. And though a crisp white paired with neon yellow gives off a summery feel, it’s gray that really makes it pop. We decided to compile a handy guide showcasing all of our favorite Neon & Neutral pairs.

The Pair: Neon Yellow & Grey

Something about a muted gray really makes neon yellow accents pop. We started with a monochromatic look – a grey collegiate tee from any Barnes & Noble College campus bookstore and a pair of grey skinny jeans. We added in a neon handbag and neon-capped ballet flats, which really stand out against the grey.

The Pair: Neon Pink & Camel

Hot pink can be hard to pull off (unless, of course, you’re Barbie). However, pairing highlighter pink accessories with a camel colored dress makes for the perfect combination. We took a Military Shirt Dress from Oasis and paired it with neon pink skimmers. For accessories, we opted for a neon pink statement necklace from BaubleBar and a cork-inspired clutch from J. Crew (to add some texture).

The Pair: Neon Orange & Egg Shell

Neon orange is no longer reserved for traffic cones and life preservers. In fact, when paired with a soft egg shell color, it can come out looking quite pretty. We took a brightly-colored River Island Skater Skirt and matched it up with a lacy crochet top from Awwdore. The neutral tone and intricate details of the shirt offset the attention-grabbing shade of the skirt. We finished it off with some adorable Steve Madden Oxfords and a funky geometric necklace from Forever 21.

The Pair: Neon Green & Navy Blue

The last color-duo we’ll be tackling is neon green & navy blue. The brightness of a lime green looks fabulous next to a deep navy. We took a vibrant pair of lace-trimmed neon shorts from Forever 21 and a flowy navy blue top from ModCloth. We also decided to break away from solid colors with a pair of navy & white striped loafers and finished off the look with silver triangular studs.

What neon & neutral colors do you wear together? Share your advice in the comments!

The IT List: Emerald Green

Not long after the release of The Wizard of Oz prequel, Oz: The Great and Powerful, it seems as though the dazzling Emerald City has jumped off of the movie screen and onto the runways. This vivid emerald shade has been deemed Pantone’s 2013 Color of the Year. We’re here to showcase some of our favorite looks featuring this dynamic shade.

Look #1: A night out is the perfect time to show off this vibrant shade. Pair a ruffled, emerald tank with a fun pair of skinny jeans for a bold look that doesn’t cross over into being tacky. Simple black booties and a stack of silver bangles are great finishing touches. Dab on some emerald nail polish to complete the entire outfit.

Get this look: Tangled Up in Green Top from ModCloth, Black Boots from H&MPolka Dot Denim Skinnies from Forever 21, Silver Bangles from Target, Essie “Going Incognito”

Look #2: Just because you’re going to an internship, doesn’t mean you can’t sport this trend. A belted dress (like the one below) is conservative, trendy, and comfortable. Add some diamond studs and a demure (but still trendy!) pair of heels and you’re ready to head off to work for the day.

Get this looks: Pleated Belted Dress from Oasis, Paititi Pyramid Studs, Moda Spana Penny Pump from DSW, Leather Messenger Bag from Etsy

Look #3: Want to add some emerald green to an outfit without fully committing? Emerald accessories are tons of fun and add a pop of color! Opt for a statement necklace (like below) or choose a green eyeliner to spice things up.

Get this look: Nine West Jeleena Leather Flats, High-Waisted Eyelash Lace Short, Mango Cropped Knit Top, Francesca’s Collection Arrowhead Necklace

What to Wear for the Big Game

Finding an outfit for Game Day is nothin’ to sweat, but it’s understandable if you’re a little hung up on it. Last year, finding Giants gear to borrow was easy, but since I don’t know any Ravens or 49ers fans this year it’s time to get creative.

The day of the big game is always a major munching, crunching, and chillaxin’ day, so being both cute and comfortable is optimal! If you’re going to a low-key party or staying in with a few friends, try pairing slim cut jeans with tall boots and a cotton tee, in your team’s colors if you have one, and some cute accessories like bangles or studs.

If you’re going out somewhere to watch the big game and you want to look a little nicer, try tight jeans and ballet flats or ankle boots with a slouchy, sequined sweater.

If you’re a really big Baltimore or San Fran fan you may want to pull out all the stops with nail polish, headbands, scarves, hats, and the whole nine yards. No matter what you’re doing, being festive is just more fun.

So what will you do on Sunday? For awesome tailgate/party recipes and check out our Big Game Pinterest Board and stay tuned for more tips and yummy game day food this weekend!

IT List: 5 Affordable Essentials for this Spring

Fashions this spring are fun and lighthearted so it’s easy to go overboard. This checklist of essentials will have you on-trend without toeing the line between cutie and crazy girl.

These accessories in Asian prints and neon colors are exactly what we mean by fun essentials, but be weary of looking like a flash back to the 80′s. The key to pulling these looks off is moderation and pairing with more neutral basics. We recommend going to scarf route to tie in Asian prints unless you are very adventurous-  like Jessa from HBO’s Girls.

Patterned and colored jeans are here to stay this spring and floral patterns are going bigger. Why not kill two birds with one stone with this sweet pair from Abercrombie & Fitch? Pieces that multi-task save you closet space and cash which is why we’re suggesting you tone down this colorful look with a dark colored boyfriend blazer that can keep you warm during the day or at night.

Boyfriend blazers are a bit longer than regular blazers so they also work well pair with dresses or skirts. This one is $60 from Topshop and we’re betting H&M also has a nice selection.

The IT List: New Year’s Eve Style

Finding the right New Year’s Eve outfit is as important to many people as watching the ball drop in Times Square. We know you’ll be filtering tons of Instagram photos and uploading tons of pictures to Facebook – so make sure you do it in style! We’ve got outfit ideas for whatever is you’ll be doing at the stroke of midnight.

PARTY WITH FRIENDS

You’re ringing in 2013 with 50 of your closest friends! We decided to go bold as a way of welcoming in the new year. A sparkly, champagne-colored dress paired with both a fuschia necklace AND pumps is fun and bright without looking tacky.

FAMILY GATHERING

Sky-high heels and a glittery dress might not be ideal for spending the last few minutes of 2012 with Grandma. Instead, try a sparkling sweater with skinny jeans and a plain tank. Black boots will keep you comfortable while statement earrings will add a little flash. Hellooooo 2013!

STAYING IN

Whether crowds aren’t your thing or you just want to relax while you count down to midnight, you can still look festive on a new year’s eve staying in. Pair comfortable leggings with a cushy pair of black loafers. On top, throw on a draped metallic sweater for a look that’s super comfortable, but still has a New Year’s flare.

Which ensemble will you be sporting this New Year’s Eve? Post a comment below and we’ll share it with our readers!
