Colleges of the Stars

Spring has us thinking about graduation and the endless possibilities the future has in store for college graduates.  Some college grads go on to pursue a great job in their fields of choice.  For others, working toward a degree was one step on their path to being “discovered.”  Many celebrities have degrees from wonderful schools under their belts.  Hey, it’s important to always have a plan B right?  Check out celebrities who have gained notoriety in the entertainment industry, but at one time were students just like you.

Texas A&M University in Kingsville counts Eva Longoria amongst their alumni. The actress received a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in 1998.

Also holding a Bachelor of Science degree is Lisa Kudrow, who graduated from Vassar College.

Tommy Lee Jones earned an English degree from Harvard University in 1969. “Black Swan”’s Natalie Portman also studied at Harvard and gained her B.A. in Psychology in 2003.

New York City was home to the college of several stars, including Denzel Washington who graduated from Fordham University in 1977 with a Journalism degree. Both Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal studied Eastern Religions at Columbia University, but only Maggie completed the degree.  Julia Stiles is also an alumnus of Columbia – her degree is in English.

A slew of late-night funny guys have degrees, as well:

  • Conan O’Brien is a Harvard grad with a degree in American History
  • Studying Speech Therapy at Emerson College has helped Jay Leno achieve success
  • Jon Stewart attended the College of William & Mary, earning a degree in Psychology in 1984
  • David Letterman’s degree is in Broadcasting from Ball State University
