September is “Better Breakfast Month!”

Everyone has an excuse for why they skip breakfast. “I don’t have time,” “I’m just not hungry in the morning,” and “I’m trying to cut calories” are just a few. In reality, however, breakfast really is the most important meal of the day. In honor of September being “Better Breakfast” month, I am going to give you a few reasons why:

  1. While you sleep, your body is essentially fasting (hence the name “break-fast”). Breakfast provides an energy boost to get your day started, even if it’s just a small meal, according to Amery Medical Center.
  2. Eating this extra meal actually helps control your weight. In addition to having an increased metabolism, states those who eat breakfast tend to consume fewer calories later on in the day, avoid overeating, and have more energy in general.
  3. Whole grains, fruits, and vegetables eaten early in the day typically provide longer-lasting energy boosts than their sugary counterparts, adds Amery Medical Center. Who doesn’t want to feel alert all the way through mid-afternoon?
  4. Breakfast is easier than you think. recommends stocking up on healthy breakfast options ahead of time for much quicker preparation in the morning! Whole wheat toast, peanut butter, fruit, yogurt…the options are endless (and don’t be afraid to experiment)!
