Being away at college means freedom, independence, and…laundry. If you’ve never done your laundry on your own, fear not! With our tips, you’ll be a pro in no time.
Avoid the Weekends – This is usually when others do all of their laundry from the week and you’ll be waiting all day to find an open machine to use. It’s best to pick a day during the week when you have some extra time to get your wash in.
Use Cold Water – Not only does this prevent color from fading and bleeding, but you save energy when you use cold water to clean your clothes!
Check Your Pockets – I’ve made the mistake of leaving various things in my pockets only to have some of my favorite clothes ruined. Be sure you haven’t left any gum, pens, money, etc in your pockets before throwing anything into the wash.
Dryer vs. Hang dry – Most of your clothes are dryer safe, but some things are best left to hang dry. Button-downs, delicates, and jeans retain their shape and size much better if they are hung up and air dried. Check the tags just to be safe.
Fabric Softener? – If you are a laundry-novice, you might not even know what this is. When it comes to leaving your clothes soft and smelling fresh, fabric softener can make all the difference. It’s worth spending a few bucks on a bottle and just one will be enough to last you the whole year!
Stain Removal – Tide-To-Go will become your best friend this year. Stains can be frustrating. Rub on some Tide-To-Go, throw it in the wash, and you’re golden!
What are some of your tricks and tips?
