Foods for Your Face

We’ve all learned by now that the junk-food-causing-acne concept is only a myth (yay!). However, good skin does work from the inside-out. So, while indulging in a chocolate bar from time to time won’t cause a massive breakout, your skin still needs certain nutrients in order to look its best.  Don’t worry, we’ve got just the list you need:

Avocados – Avocados, aside from being delicious, provide plenty of health benefits for your skin. They contain Niacin, which helps soothe irritated or blotchy skin. In addition, they are high in sterolins which help heal sun damage and scars. According to avocados.com, it is the sterolins in avocado oil that help soften and moisturize skin. Sounds like a good reason to indulge in some guacamole!

Almonds – Not only are almonds a great snack, they are also chock full of Vitamin E. The oils in Vitamin E are excellent moisturizers and their antioxidants protect against skin damage. Justalmonds.com also states that the antioxidants found in almonds can help reduce wrinkles and fine lines (something to keep a mental note of for when you get older).

Mangoes – Mangoes are filled with Vitamin A which helps maintain and repair skin cells as well as fight damage caused by free radicals. In addition, they come in at less than 100 calories which makes them perfect for your skin AND you waistline.

Cooked Tomatoes – According to Mens Health, tomatoes contain lycopene which helps fight free radical damage caused by UV rays. Cooking the tomatoes helps concentrate the levels of lycopene therefore ramping up the skin protection.

Green Tea – Green tea releases an antioxidant (catechin) that not only has anticancer properties, it is proven to fight inflammation. Research shows that consuming 2+ cups a day might reverse the effects of sun damage.
