Glamour’s Top 10 College Women 2013

Once again, Glamour Magazine has picked their Top 10 College Women for the year! This list of extraordinary ladies is just as inspiring as the list featured last year. Each year, more than 1,000 young women are nominated based on their on-campus achievements. Eventually, the nominees are narrowed down to 10. Each of the ten students demonstrate exceptional leadership skills, academic success, involvement in their communities, and unique ambitions. Keep reading for a preview of this year’s winners!

Katherine Bomkamp – West Virginia University: Katherine developed the Pain Free Socket, a patented prosthetic insert meant to alleviate phantom pain in amputees. Inspired by injured soldiers, her invention landed her a spot in the National Gallery for America’s Young Inventors and as the youngest person to speak at the Royal Society of Medicine’s Innovation Summit in London!

Grace Young – MIT: This robotics whiz grew up inspired by the machinery in her great-grandfather’s chocolate factory. However, it didn’t take Willy Wonka to make this girl’s dreams become a reality. She currently helps build marine robots that explore oceans – one even mapped a portion of the underside of Antarctic sea ice!

Alice Lee – University of Pennsylvania: Lee’s history shows the power of moving outside of the box. She took a semester off back in 2011 to intern at Foursquare and travel to Ethiopia, where she shot photos that helped raise money for schools there. Her Web resume, Dear Instagram, had more than 80,000 in a week and she will soon be the youngest product designer at Dropbox.

Micah Schure – Emerson College: Micah is no stranger to the music industry. Growing up with a music-publicist as a mother and an avid guitar-player as a father, it seemed as though the music became a part of her as a young age. Since then, she’s performed her original tunes across the country, including at a fund-raiser with Michelle Williams of Destiny’s Child fame. With her talent, she’s destined for something great.
