Title: The Rosie Project
Author: Graeme Simsion
Category: Beach Reads
Overview: Written from the perspective of the quirky, eccentric, and uber-intelligent Professor Don Tillman, this fun Australian romance will make you giggle and even “Aww” once or twice. Not looking for love and deemed ‘undateable’ by his own standards, Don sets out on the “Wife Project” and creates a quiz to determine whether someone could be his perfect partner. The results are unexpected…and heartwarming.
Thoughts: Don’t be put off by the heart on the cover and the love theme! The Rosie Project is full of funny awkward moments, miscommunications and miscues, and interspersed with plenty of science and experiments. I listened to the book on tape during my morning commute to work and was thrilled with the author’s reading of the book (and, of course, his lovely Australian accent.)
I’d absolutely recommend it for a weekend read or even for a day on the beach. The characters might not be completely realistic, but they are lovable and there are definitely plenty of relatable moments that occur – especially while Don navigates the dating world. The book is an awesome reminder that love often comes in the forms we expect the least and that most people still need to learn how to break their habits and reach their fullest potential. Although, I haven’t read it yet, the sequel The Rosie Effect is out now to great reviews…..and it’s on my list!
