Summer has arrived in full force and that means lazy days, beach weekends, and a much needed break from all that school work! Summer also means packing…and unpacking…and packing back up again. And whether you’re a freshman headed off to your first year away at school, or you’ve just moved back home after graduating, you’re not immune to the hassle that is packing. It typically includes an enormous MESS , but it also means having to deal with making decisions about childhood items from your bedroom (or that really bad outfit you bought for that one Halloween party your sophomore year). While you may be tossing most of it, or sending big bags over to donate to the Goodwill or Salvation Army, you may want to hang on to those items that are still in good shape, still have their tags, or even have a big name label. Because psst here’s the secret…you can make money off them!
No, not enough to bankroll your whole summer, but certainly enough to buy another bad Halloween costume or save up for something you’ll hold on to after another semester!
Welcome to Poshmark, our latest #DownloadWorthy app and our favorite place to buy and sell used AND new clothing, shoes and accessories. This simple app combines the likes, shares, and follows of social media, with the photography of Instagram, and the haggling of your favorite summer flea market to create a world of fashion to buy at your fingertips!
The concept is simple, take a photo of the items you want to sell, create a listing for the item, including the size, brand, short description and whether or not it’s brand new. Then, list the item with a price you think is fair and share it to all your new Poshmark friends! They recently rolled out a new option to place bids on items you want to buy and it can quickly turn into a back and forth with your potential customer of price haggling – but, honestly, that’s part of the fun! Once your item sells, you get a prepaid USPS shipping label, you package it up and mail it out!
Once your buyer receives the item, the money you earned gets placed in your account. You can choose to get a direct deposit or check in the mail with your profits, or you can keep it in your account to put it towards purchases you make from other ‘Poshers.’ Poshmark takes a small percentage off of each sale, but we still think it’s a worthwhile venture if you have the items you want to get rid of but don’t want to throw away!
The app is intuitive, simple to use and oh-so-addicting…soon you’ll be sharing and liking the posts of others in the hopes that they’ll help you out in turn to sell your goods! It’s a fun way to begin the cleaning out process in anticipation of packing back up again for the Fall semester, plus it gives you a little extra spending money!
