Sun Tzu was an ancient Chinese general who wrote The Art of War as a guidebook for generals to be successful in wartime. However, Sun Tzu’s ancient self-help book holds some incredible insights that may also be applied to business management, work environment politics, competition, and leadership skills. In fact, many CEOs and business people around the world still turn to this book for guidance. 


Your career certainly shouldn’t feel like a battlefield, but it might require some strategy and expert maneuvering! “The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting.”

  • Meaning: Conflict and confrontation with people should always be your last resort when trying to resolve a problem. Never initiate unnecessary conflict with people.

“Even the finest sword plunged into salt water will eventually rust.”

  • Meaning: You can expect to have problems with anything you work on or create, no matter how perfect you think it is. This is normal.

“On the ground of intersecting highways, join hands with your allies.”

  • Meaning: Make friends with the people who are around you. You’ll see them every day and it would be advantageous to keep your environment as friendly as possible in general.

“A leader leads by example, not by force.”

  • Meaning: Don’t tell others to do what you can’t or wouldn’t do yourself. Lead by example.
