Lesson #1: Professors are Passionate About Teaching

Take an interest in the subject matter! Your professors are passionate about the subject they are teaching and will be thrilled when they see that you want to know more about it. They are also passionate about awakening a love of learning in you. After all, part of their job is sharing what they love with their students!

Lesson #2: Asking Questions Makes You Look Good

Students often worry that asking questions will make them look unprepared or unintelligent, but really nothing could be further from the truth! As long as you are asking questions about the material or subject in general, the professors will think you are being proactive by taking the steps in the right direction in order to expand your knowledge. Ask away!

Lesson #3: Office Hours are There for a Reason

Want to know a secret? Most professors want you to take advantage of their office hours!  You or your family are paying a lot of money towards your tuition, so make sure to take advantage of all opportunities you’re given! And remember, making connections with professors now can help you in the future, with career guidance, internships and more!

Lesson #4: Helping You Is Their Job – Just Ask!

When you get anxious about talking to your professors, take a few deep breaths and remember: talking to students is a huge part of their job, it’s what they get paid for! Plus, they really do love hearing from students because it shows them that their students are engaging with the material and that they’re doing their job right!
