BNC Book Club: After You

AfterYouTitle: After You

Author: Jojo Moyes

Category: Rainy Saturday Read

Overview: Finally! A follow-up to Moyes’ beloved 2012 novel Me Before YouIf you haven’t read that one yet,  we suggest you get a copy ASAP. Really…stop reading and go get it!!

If you DO decide to keep reading…well, we’ll certainly try not to spoil anything for you. This latest installment picks up a few months after the last one left off. We’re reunited with our heroine, Louisa, who is struggling to find her way in the world after the loss of Will. We’re introduced to some surprising new characters who seem to wander into Louisa’s life at just the right time. They help her sort through her grief, teach her that loving after loss is OK and, in turn, help Louisa to get closer to fulfilling Will’s wish for her to “Live well.”

Perhaps there’s some hope here after all…

Thoughts: Much like all of Moyes’ books, her characters are honest and true-to-life…and this latest iteration of Louisa is no different. We can all relate to the fog she seems to navigate through in the wake of the loss of a loved one. We love that Louisa journeys through her grief with humor, wit, and even awkwardness. Despite the sweeping romance and punch-you-in-the-gut poignance of the first novel, After You restores balance to Louisa’s life and focuses on the healing process. We can promise you’ll close the book with warm-fuzzy feeling (and possibly a few tears).
