Nowadays, it seems that so many new movies coming to theaters are based off of books. While we are firm believers that the books are almost always better than their movie adaptations (almost!), it doesn’t mean we aren’t lining up to see the latest flick. If you’re not all caught up with the books being made into movies this year, we’ve got your go-to guide to help you get started.
Even better? They’re all available on Yuzu, which means they’re only a click away!
1. Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
The PERFECT Halloween read! There is so much more to this classic than the big, lumbering green monster with screws on the side of his head! With two of our favorite Brits in the lead roles – Daniel Radcliffe as Igor and James McAvoy as Victor Von Frankenstein – it’s sure to be a hit. However, we recommend you check out the book and get seriously spooked just in time for Halloween!

2. The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling
So many people are smitten with Disney’s animated version of The Jungle Book that they forget it was actually published FIRST back in 1893! Despite the Disney stamp on this 2016 re-make, the tone of the movie is set to be a bit more serious than the “Bare Necessities” singing first version. With big names like Bill Murray, Scarlett Johansson, and Idris Elba lending their voices, it’s definitely bound to be an exciting show. Get yourself excited by checking out Kipling’s classic first!

3. The Revenant by Michael Punke
It’s official, Leonardo DiCaprio WILL be starring in this film adaptation. But if there’s one thing that’s bound to be more compelling than his performance for the film…is this book. The premise? The setting is 1823 America and our main character is an expert frontiersman and hunter, who is left for dead by his comrades after a brutal bear mauling. The twist is – of course – that he survives, and the rest of the adventure follows him as he desperately and angrily seeks revenge.

4. Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter
While we can imagine the silver screen will do the scenery of the southern Italian coastline justice, we were immediately sucked into the tale that Walter beautifully spins. The story begins in the 1960’s with the arrival of a mysterious American actress and jumps through time till nearly present day to finish out the story. We won’t give anymore away…but we will say that we read it in only a day. Rumor has it that actress Imogen Poots has already signed on for one of the main roles, and we can’t wait to see how the film will stand next to the colorful novel.

5. The Zookeeper’s Wife by Diane Ackerman
Another recommendation of ours is a beautiful true story by Diane Ackerman. Based on the journals and diaries of a Polish zookeeper’s wife during WWII, the book recounts how the couple saved hundreds of Polish Jews from the Nazis in the Warsaw Zoo. It reads like a novel and you’ll be easily drawn into the heartbreaking, but triumphant story of the Żabińskas. Although the film isn’t set to be released till 2016, we hear that the wonderful Jessica Chastain has already signed on for the title role.

6. Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll
Lewis Carroll’s dreamy sequel to Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland takes Alice back to the whimsical land from the first novel – this time through a mirror. It’s in Through the Looking Glass that Alice encounters Tweedledee and Tweedledum as well as a variety of other colorful characters. Johnny Depp, Mia Wasikowska, Anne Hathaway, and Helena Bonham Carter are all back for the follow-up to the 2010 film. Though these films tend to stray from the plot of the novels, we’re still excited to travel back to Wonderland with Alice.
