We’re kind of obsessed with reading books by our favorite celebrities. Though we see them all the time in the media and hear about their lives in the tabloids, it’s completely different reading about them in the form of personal essays exclusively from their own point of view.
Are you itching to dive into one of these good reads? Check out some of our top picks below.

Seriously… I’m Kidding – Ellen Degeneres
If you’re already a fan of Ellen, then you know how naturally hilarious she is. Luckily for us book-lovers, she’s just as hysterical in her book as she is on TV. But beyond the hilarity, Ellen captures readers by uplifting and empowering them with stories of her experiences while remaining lighthearted and witty.
Bossypants – Tina Fey
Whether you’ve grown to love Tina Fey from the genius that is 30 Rock, or how she effortlessly pulls off Sarah Palin on SNL, you can bet you’ll fall in love with her all over again in this book. Another hilarious read – Tina Fey chronicles her life in a way we can all relate to. From dealing with dead-end jobs to learning humorous life lessons as a teen, Tina Fey captures it all and tells it like it is… in a hysterical way of course.
Why Not Me? – Mindy Kaling
If there’s any celebrity that’s easy to relate to, it’s Mindy Kaling. Her series of personal essays reflects thoughts and experiences we can all appreciate. The book doesn’t just take you through her life. Each essay has a different purpose, whether it’s giving you sarcastic Hollywood beauty advice or making you laugh with an awkward memory. Basically, she’s like your witty best friend dishing to you some secrets and embarrassing stories.
Bonus: We were lucky enough to do a Q&A with Mindy Kaling about her book! Check it out here.
Modern Romance – Aziz Ansari
This book is a bit different from the rest as it’s not exactly a memoir. Comedian and actor Aziz Ansari pairs his comical tone with the research of American Sociologist, Eric Klinenberg. If you’re entertained by Ansari’s stand up, are curious about how we’ve come from romantic courting to an undeniable hookup culture, and laugh at how much time we spend crafting the perfect text to our love interest, then this is a book worth reading.
Years of Yes – Shonda Rhimes
If you’re a fan of Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal, then you’re already aware of how incredibly talented Shonda Rhimes is. As a self-proclaimed introvert, Rhimes chronicles how she changed her life by simply spending a year saying yes to unexpected invitations.
Wildflower – Drew Barrymore
It’s hard not to love award-winning actress, Drew Barrymore. Not only is she adorable and funny, but she’s actually super down to earth. This is showcased in her book, which shares stories of her life growing up. Forget the glitz and glamour that you picture with any Hollywood actor. Barrymore talks struggles like homelessness, loss, and your Average Joe type of tasks like visits to the laundromat.
Not That Kind of Girl – Lena Dunham
Lena Dunham is basically the It girl when it comes to choosing a Hollywood best friend. You may know her as the writer and star of the HBO series Girls, or as one of the lucky people in Taylor Swift’s posse. Either way, it’s clear she has a lot to offer in her book, where she discusses the struggles of being overweight, falling in love, and proving herself in a society that isn’t so accepting.
