How to Cope When You’re Feeling Overwhelmed

Internships, part time jobs, classes… sometimes all of our responsibilities can get a bit overwhelming! It may feel like you have too much on your plate, but we have some ideas on how you can cope with feeling overwhelmed. Check it out!


Write out your frustration.

You know how you always vent to your best buddy whenever you’re overwhelmed? It feels good to get things off your chest, but there isn’t always a listening ear around. Keep a journal handy and vent onto the pages instead!




Take things one step at a time.

When you feel like you have a million and a half responsibilities buzzing through your mind, it’s sure to be overwhelming. Focus on one thing at a time, and ONLY that one thing.


Don’t say ‘yes’ to everything.

It’s okay to say ‘no’ sometimes! Remember, you have to take care of yourself. Say ‘yes’ to the important things and send the rest to the ‘no’ pile.


Get rid of any distractions.

Distractions will make you feel more overwhelmed in the long run. Turn off your phone, stay away from the TV, and only focus on what needs to be done.

Prepare ahead of time.

Good ol’ procrastination always gets the best of us, right? Even if you just prepare a few things ahead of time, it will seriously help lessen some of the stress!


Don’t be hard on yourself.

Ragging on yourself when you’re overwhelmed only makes it worse! Put that energy toward completing your responsibilities instead.
