Grab some friends and get ready for an adventure – summer is here and it’s time to live it up! If you’re thinking about heading off on a road trip this season, you’ve come to the right place. Plan your destinations.

Maybe you’re dying to dive into the history of Williamsburg, Va. Or, maybe you prefer the breathtaking views of a National Park. Try finding and area with multiple travel-worthy sites, so you can spend less time on the road and more time exploring. Here are some ideas if you need some inspo!

Plan your route.

Sure you already have a your list of destinations you want to see, but planning your route goes beyond that! Not only will you want to find a route with plenty of rest stops and hotels, but it’s a great idea to also look for a route with cool hidden attractions you can stop at along the way. Roadtrippers is the perfect app for this!

Create a packing list.

Clothing, a camera, chargers, snacks… you’ll want to make sure you have all the essentials. We personally love this packing list, but keep in mind that your needs will vary based on where you’re headed. Oh! – and don’t forget toll money!

Download some apps.

There are some pretty awesome apps out there that can assist you during your road trip. From finding cool restaurants to booking last minute hotels, downloading some apps is basically a must! Here’s what we suggest:

Hotel Tonight: Book a last minute room at a fraction of the cost! Andriod | iOS

Roadtrippers: Plan your route and find cool sites and attractions along the way! Android | iOS

Waze: Stay up-to-date on real time traffic patterns and take the road less traveled. Android | iOS

GasBuddy: Find the cheapest gas prices in your location. Android | iOS

Keep a budget.

This isn’t a luxury vacation to a five star resort, so make sure you don’t end up breaking the bank! Unfortunately, it’s easy to lose track of your spending habits when you’re having so much fun with friends. Come up with an amount that you’re comfortable spending, then keep track of your purchases throughout the trip and look for ways to save some extra cash.
