Whether you’re excited for the holidays or not, we can all agree that things don’t always go as planned. Mishaps happen, but they don’t have to ruin the holiday spirit! We’ve recruited the help of some of our favorite holiday movies to help us explain.
1. Someone bought you a gift, but you didn’t get them anything.
First instinct? Melt into a puddle until you completely disappear and no longer have to deal with the awkwardness. The better option? Simply thank them for the generous gift. It’ll just make things even more awkward if you profusely apologize.
2. You left all of your shopping until the last minute.
You might have promised yourself you wouldn’t make this mistake again this year, but hey – it happens. Squeezing your way through the mobs of people in the mall isn’t exactly ideal, but it gets the job done. You can also try whipping up a DIY gift, or go for the classic money in a card.
Next year you’ll definitely start early, right?
3. The turkey is ruined.
Bummer. Ruining something as big as the holiday turkey sure might feel like the end of the world. Hopefully there’s an abundance of other dishes included in your holiday spread! It’s best to be prepared, just in case. Just think of this as a funny story you’ll look back on!
4. You ate way more than you wanted to.
The holidays are inconveniently that time of year when there’s a ton of good food and when many people start planning a diet for the new year. If you’ve accidentally indulged more than you wanted to, don’t fret. It’s okay to enjoy yourself, and it’s never too late to start your diet again!
5. You get in a heated debate during the holiday dinner.
You tried to avoid it, but somebody brought up politics at the dinner table and now everybody is raising their voices. Sometimes things tend to escalate further than planned. If need be, step away from the table for a bit until the adrenaline subsides. Remember, the holidays should be all about love!
6. Your family keeps nagging you about your love life.
It never fails. Family members always want to know about your love life, reminding you just how single you are. Sheesh, can they give it a break? We suggest keeping some conversation starters in your back pocket so that when this unwanted discussion arises, you can quickly change topics.
7. They also keep asking about those grades you’re not so proud of.
They’re only asking because they care, but it can get a bit annoying. Try focusing on the grades you are proud of. If that doesn’t work, retreat back to those conversation starters we mentioned in #6.
8. Someone steals your New Year’s outfit.
So, you walk into the New Year’s party your friend invited you to, and you see your exact outfit staring back at you on someone else. Awkward. The best way to handle it? Share a quick laugh and own your look with confidence. You’re there to have fun, so don’t let this little mishap ruin it!
