While community colleges do have their differences from bigger state universities, one thing certainly remains the same—there are plenty of ways to get involved. If you thought you’d just be going to class every day and then heading straight home, you thought wrong! Here are some easy suggestions to start taking advantage of.
Join a club.
Finding a club or organization that sparks your interest won’t be hard—there are plenty to choose from. Whether you’re looking for something that caters to a hobby of yours, or something a little more on the professional side, you’re bound to find a great fit. If you’re not completely sold on your school’s offerings, why not start a brand new organization?
Check your school’s calendar of events.
Events go on around campus all throughout the year, but you’ve got to be proactive and scope them out! Browse through your school’s website and check out their calendar of events. They’re often free (score!) and are swarming with other students eager to get involved and meet new people. Who knows, maybe there will even be refreshments!
Visit the rec center.
Your school’s rec center is great place to strike up conversation with some new people. There are a few different ways you can get involved here—like participating in a group fitness class, joining an intramural sports team, or just starting a quick pick-up game with other students!
Attend an SGA meeting.
Student Government Associations are the perfect way to get involved if you’re looking to make a difference on campus. Basically, they act as the voice of the entire student body and oversee all clubs and organizations. Try sitting in a few meetings and see if it’s a good fit for you. Maybe you’ll even want to run for a position!
Find a campus job.
Get involved on campus and get paid for it? Sounds like a sweet deal to us! Your campus likely offers a variety of jobs for students—from working at the student center to assisting professors. Check your school’s website for any open job opportunities you’d be interested in.
