10 Budget-Friendly Summer Activities

As soon as summer rolls around, the only thing on everyone’s mind is figuring out just how to take advantage of the beautiful weather. Keeping your budget in the back of mind, we rounded up a list of fun summer activities that won’t break your wallet.

1. Have a picnic.

Who needs a fancy restaurant? Pack a cooler with some sandwiches and drinks, grab a blanket, and you’re all set!

2. Go stargazing.

Stargazing in the summer is the best. You can catch the Perseid Meteor Shower in mid August, and the rest of the summer offers opportunities to see planets like Mercury, Venus and Jupiter! Stargazing apps—like SkyView—are definitely worth the download for clear nights this season.

3. Spend the weekend camping.

Weekend getaways can totally be budget friendly—that is, if you’re willing to rough it a bit!

4. Scope out some hidden beaches and lakes.

Big tourist-filled beaches often have crazy parking prices and a fee to use the beach—but if you explore a little bit further, you can sometimes find a hidden (and free!) spot away from all the madness.

5. Go bike riding.

A breeze flowing through your hair on a warm summer evening is pure perfection. Wouldn’t you agree?

6. Find an outdoor reading spot.

A change of scenery can make any activity more exciting. Pop a squat under your favorite tree, lay out on a hammock, or dive into your book while laying by the pool.

7. Have a BBQ.

You can cut down on costs by having each guest contribute a dish. No back yard? Head over to your nearest park!

8. Keep tabs on local events.

Budget-friendly events go on all the time, but you have to be proactive and look them up! A quick Google search for events in your area can give you a variety of options—from county fairs to free outdoor concerts.

9. Visit a nearby park.

Enjoying your local park never gets old. You can relax with a book, take a walk, or play a game of catch with friends.

10. Make a slip and slide.

Don’t worry what anyone says…You’re never too old for a slip and slide!
