8 Apps to Help You Navigate Life in College

From long days of classes to heading out on weekend adventures, you can bet there’s an app designed for wherever college life takes you. Take a look at some of our favorites below!

1. When you can’t focus: Freedom

Does this situation sound familiar? You sit down and write the first line of your essay, check Instagram, laugh at a few memes, Google some random celebrity’s net worth, Facebook stalk that kid you went to elementary school with, then finally write that second line. If so, Freedom is a must. It’ll temporarily block distracting sites and apps from all of your devices, so you can focus on what’s important.

2. When it’s time to study: Quizlet

We’re big fans of using an app as a study aid. Why? Because you can literally study while you’re heading out the door, in line at the coffee shop, and as you’re walking into your exam. Quizlet gives you access to flashcards and other helpful study tools that will help the material stick.

3. When you need some organization: Evernote

This app is an absolute dream for anyone obsessed with organization! You can take notes, make checklists and to-do lists, and even store paper documents (go ahead and scan your hand-written notes after class!). You can also set reminders for the important tasks, so you’ll never miss a due date or commitment.

4. When you’re worried about overspending: Mint

There’s nothing worse than that punch in the gut you get when your card gets declined while ringing up your morning coffee. Ouch! Many students shy away from budgeting simply because it seems complicated and, well, pretty darn boring. That’s why we love that there’s an app created just for managing budgets — Staying on top of your spending is basically effortless.

5. When you’re avoiding the Freshman 15: MyFitnessPal

Hey, we get it — it’s pretty easy to indulge when you have an unlimited meal plan. No shame! But if you’re really worried about putting on that Freshman 15, you should consider giving this one a download. MyFitnessPal helps track your meals, calories, and exercise on one easy-to-use platform.

This app includes relaxation techniques, a mood-tracking feature, helpful activities and more to help you combat your daily stress and anxiety.

7. When you’re looking for fun and new friends: Meetup

This app touches on the part of college we all look forward to — meeting new people and going out! Whether you’re into running marathons or want to join a local book club, Meetup connects you with others who are getting together for the same interest.

8. When you’re worried about your safety: Circle of 6

College is often the first time that you’re completely on your own. It’s exciting, but it can also have its scary moments — like when you’re walking home from your night class and don’t have a buddy by your side. Circle of 6 let’s you choose six trusted friends. If you find yourself in a sticky situation, the app will send an SMS alert message to those contacts with your exact GPS location. Give it a download, just to give you some peace of mind.
