Decisions, decisions…Life is full of ’em! Not all decisions are as easy as deciding what to wear and eat each day, either. For all of those moments that leave you scratching your head with indecisiveness, you can try out some of the tactics we recommend below.
1. Collect feedback from other people.
You can’t expect someone else to make your decision for you, but getting some input from others definitely helps. Sometimes all you need is an outside perspective on the situation. Look for someone totally unbiased and see what kinds of insights they offer.
2. Take a break and come back with a fresh mindset.
Rushing into a decision is the worst. There might be a million things buzzing around in your mind that are totally distracting you from thinking clearly! Take a breather and then revisit the situation — You’ll thank yourself later.
3. Think both long-term and short-term.
Remember that episode of SpongeBob when Squidward had his first Krabby Patty? He went completely crazy devouring every patty in sight! At the moment, the delicious taste seemed totally worth it…but long term? It went straight to his thighs…and then he blew up! This SpongeBob example might seem a bit silly, but the message still applies.
4. Trust your intuition.
While you shouldn’t be too impulsive, sometimes you just have to trust your gut! What did your first instinct tell you to do? Is there still a part of you that keeps leaning towards that side for some reason? Your intuition knows what’s up!
5. Weigh the pros and cons.
This is often the first tactic people use in decision making, but it can get tricky! One side might have 10 pros while the other side only has five, but those five pros might be really strong compared to the 10 on the other side. When you look at the pros and cons before making your decision, make sure you take into account how important each factor you’re listing really is.
