5 Important Reminders for Finals Week

You’ve been deep in your textbooks all week, you’ve been endlessly working through those last major projects, and you’ve locked down in the library for hours preparing for each of your exams. The stress and insanity of finals week might be consuming your mind right now, but we’re here to remind you that YOUR needs are still very much important.

1. Sleep isn’t for the weak.

Finals week often leaves you feeling like pulling an all-nighter is your only option, but rest is extra important this week. A lack of sleep weakens your immune system, leaves you feeling stressed and burnt out, and makes it harder for you to retain the information you’re studying. That sounds miserable, and finals week is already hard enough as it is! Make sleep a priority this week, and pick up on your studying with a fresh mindset once you’re well rested.

 

2. A smile is necessary.

No, we don’t expect you to crack a smile while you’re deep in your study session or filling out your exam (although that would be nice!). However, you should make time for things that make you happy throughout the week — even if it’s just a quick lunch break with your best friends.

 

 

3. Eating healthy is important.

Right now you’re probably not thinking much about what your next meal is. In fact, you may even just opt for the convenience of coffee and salty snacks to hold you over. Your body needs proper fuel to keep going, though! A brief study break will do you good anyway, so sit down with an actual healthy meal while you de-stress for a bit.

 

4. You will make it through. 

It’s kind of hard seeing the light at the end of the tunnel when there’s so much to do in such little time. Hang in there, though — you will make it through. Sometimes it helps if you motivate yourself with a little reward at the end of the week. A long nap, a large pizza, or a little bit of a shopping spree are much-deserved!

 

5. Your grades don’t define you.

Those finals-week nerves are all too real, and sometimes the thought of failing gives you such bad anxiety, it really gets you down on yourself. Just remember that no matter what happens this week, you’re still a hard-worker, an amazing friend, an awesome son or daughter, and so much more.

Hang in there, winter break will be here before you know it. Until then, good luck on your exams!
