Transferring schools is often a nerve-wracking decision. New location, new people, new classes…It’s a lot of new. But don’t let that scare you away from a decision that can seriously benefit you. Take a look at these five tell-tale signs it’s time to transfer schools.
1. The location is holding you back.
There are quite a few ways location can hold you back. Sometimes you need to be closer to family, other times you have a far job you’re commuting to, and sometimes you realize the location you’re currently at just isn’t your cup of tea. All of these scenarios are a valid reason to find a school in a place that better suits your wants and needs.
2. You want to change majors.
Changing majors is super common. A lot of times, you can switch majors and still stay at your current school — which is great! However, it’s not uncommon to switch schools along with your major. Maybe your current school doesn’t offer your preferred major, or maybe a different school just offers a stronger program.
3. The size is overwhelming (or underwhelming).
Your personal preference does matter. For some people, a big state college sounds great at first thought — but when they actually try it out? Sometimes they find that the campus and class sizes are a bit overwhelming for their taste. On the contrary, someone who opted for a school with a smaller campus might feel restricted by the size.
4. The college experience feels off.
While academics are important, it’s not the only factor that’s important. Everyone wants that perfect college experience, right? Some people dream of a college with big game days, a dedicated alumni network, and massive amounts of school spirit. Others don’t care for those extra frills. It’s up to you to figure out the environment that makes you the happiest.
5. It’s too much financial pressure.
Money is a huge factor. Taking out student loans can leave a big burden on some people. For that reason, it’s not uncommon for students to seek more affordable options elsewhere.
