If you needed another reason to cut this sugar-filled drink out of your diet, how about considering how much you’re spending on it? It might not seem like you’re blowing big bucks when you order a Sprite with your lunch, but that money does add up. Swapping your drink of choice to water will keep more cash in your pockets down the line.
Not using your own kitchen.
Heading out for lunch and dinner is, of course, very convenient for busy schedules. However, it’ll do your wallet some good if you start prepping your own meals instead. Now, what if you’re dorming and don’t have a kitchen? Remember that your meal plan has already been purchased, so stick to that when you’re tempted to order takeout for the second time in one week.
Always ordering the fancy coffee beverages.
That fancy latte you order each morning? While it’s seriously delicious, it’s also seriously costly. Try sticking to a simple order most days, or start brewing your own coffee. You can even check if your cafe of choice has a loyalty card so that you can start reaping the benefits of earning free beverages.
Letting food go to waste.
Before heading out on yet another lunch date, don’t forget about the leftovers you’re saving in your fridge. You’ll definitely want to reach for those first since they have a fairly short expiration date. If you’re really not a fan of leftovers, start preparing smaller portions so your food stops going to waste.
Drinking from plastic water bottles.
Reusable water bottles are the best. It’s a one-time purchase that you can simply fill with your Brita filter, or a water fountain on campus. That’s much more cost-friendly than buying a new case of water bottles every few weeks, don’t you think?
Jumping onto too many trends.
What makes something a trend? It’s popular for a little bit, but then it disappears. That second part is important to remember. Is it worth buying that hot new game or that expensive beauty product if it’ll just be irrelevant in a bit of time?
Forgetting to cancel subscriptions (or making excuses why you shouldn’t).
How many of your subscriptions do you actually use? Maybe you subscribe to both Netflix and Hulu, but you really only use one of the other. Yet, you’re still paying monthly for both! Or, maybe you’re paying for a gym membership, and although you know you haven’t showed your face in weeks, you keep telling yourself you’ll start going again soon (to no avail). If this is the case, it’s time to cancel.
