There’s no way to sugarcoat it…the thought of preparing for final exams is enough to send anyone hiding under their covers. Well, you can’t avoid finals week forever, so sit back as we list off a few painless ways you can start prepping.
1. Get a study group together.
Any excuse to meet up with friends definitely takes the sting out of studying for finals. At the end of the day, you’re all in this together. Another perk? When you commit to meeting with a group, it’s a bit harder making excuses to put off your studying until the last minute.
Tip: Make a list of questions you have before meeting with your study group. This will keep you guys on track, and ensure that the study session actually benefits you.
2. Pull together cozy outfits and a study playlist.
PJ’s and sweats all day? Yes, please! Now is the time to crack out your comfiest and coziest apparel. As for your study playlist, we recommend a relaxing selection of songs. Try instrumentals if you typically get distracted by lyrics!
3. Come up with some incentives.
Treat yourself! A little bit of motivation can go a long way. Plan a reward for yourself once finals end, give yourself a mini incentive after each study session, or all of the above. It helps to have something to look forward to!
Good news, nap-lovers! Sleep is so important during finals week. Researchers believe that sleep deprivation hinders your ability to focus, and impairs your mind’s ability to retain what you’re studying! Just, you know, make sure you actually study before getting some shut-eye.
5. Explore different studying methods.
The best way to make studying as painless as possible is to find a method that works best for you. Sure, you can simply reread your notes, but we don’t recommend that. Finding a more effective method can seriously cut down on the amount of time you spend studying. (Meaning, you’ll have more time for some much-needed rest and relaxation!)
